Storm Effects on the VCR

Lost during a storm in the late 1800s, the "Esk" emerged from the surf onto the beach of Parramore Island. During the "Perfect Storm" (also known as the "Halloween Storm") in October 1991 waves moved the "Esk" more than 300 meters laterally down the beach. Importantly, as the dying trees in the background attest, those same waves flattened the dune system that formerly protected the vibrant maritime forest, killing the trees and setting the stage for a major fire in 2002.
