Cohort Timeline
Funding for LTER sites is renewed every six years. The 28 sites are divided into three cohorts to spread out the process of review and renewal. Synthesis Themes
The LTER presently focuses on four Network-wide themes for scientific synthesis: future scenarios of change, inland climate change, the disappearing cryosphere, and coastal vulnerability. These common themes allow LTER sites to pool their knowledge of multiple ecosystems to achieve new understanding of fundamental ecological principles.
