The Central Arizona-Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research Program (CAP LTER) and the Regional Drinking Water Quality Program (RWQ) at Arizona State University are hiring a Research Specialist Senior. CAP LTER has been funded by the National Science Foundation for more than 25 years to study urban ecology in the greater Phoenix area. RWQ is a locally funded, long-term monitoring project examining water quality issues in the Valley, specifically quantifying the taste and odor of regional drinking water.
The desired candidate will have experience with laboratory analysis of water, plant, and soil samples. They will also be familiar with the operation, calibration, and maintenance of a variety of instrumentation, including: GC/MS, ICP-OES, Lachat Flow-injection, Seal AQ2 Discreet, Perkin Elmer CHN combustion, Shimadzu DOC/TN analyzers, and meters (conductivity, pH, and Eureka datasonde probes), and a variety of preparatory equipment (autoclave, centrifuge, drying oven, muffle furnace, and microbalances). Other responsibilities will include data management, preparing samples for analysis (i.e. filtering, digesting, acidifying, acid washing, ashing in a muffle furnace, weighing, pipetting, making chemical reagents), and working safely with hazardous chemicals.
