Preparing to enter the scientific work force after completing a graduate degree can be daunting at any time. The current funding uncertainty adds a whole new layer of uncertainty. There is no ‘one path fits all’ that will lead to your career goals, but one of the best ways to prepare is to learn from others’ experiences.
This year, the LTER career forum will focus on the role of environmental scientists in state agencies, non-governmental organizations, for-profit organizations, and tribal communities.
If you are interested in pursuing a career outside of academia — or just learning what one might be like — join us on May 7 from 1:00-3:00 PM EST/10:00-Noon PST to meet scientists working around the United States and learn about their career paths, work challenges and benefits, ‘a day in their life,’ and advice they wish they had known as early career scientists.
Panelists:
- Morgan Ivens-Duran; Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor for California Fish and Wildlife
- Jennifer Tisthammer; Program Manager-Grants Coordination for Miami Dade County Office of Management and Budget
- Kate Wilkins; Regional Conservation Director of Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance
- Julianne Heinlein; Aquatic Ecologist and Phycologist for Great Lakes Environmental Center
