The Semester in Environmental Science is a 15-week fall semester at the Ecosystems Center of the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The curriculum provides an intensive field and laboratory-based introduction to ecosystem science and the biogeochemistry of coastal forests, freshwater ponds and estuaries. The Marine Biological Laboratory seeks applicants for 4 positions in association with the program.
SES Teaching Assistant I JOB SUMMARY: The MBL seeks 2 full-time temporary Teaching Assistants to help with field & lab instruction in the Semester in Environmental Science (SES) for the Fall Semester. The position begins August 27, 2018 and runs through January 12, 2019.
- One of the positions has shared responsibility assisting in the Microbial Methods and Core Courses and will work under the supervision of the SES Director and Microbial Methods Course faculty assisting with preparation for lab and fieldwork associated with the courses. Specific duties include but are not limited to: assisting in removal from storage, uncrating and setting up of equipment and supplies required for the SES Microbial Course; assisting in the set-up of various lab and field exercises for the Microbial Methods and core courses, helping supervise students with chemical and laboratory analyses as needed; helping students with data analysis and calculations, assisting students with field work; and maintaining an orderly laboratory. The TA will also help students with their independent project research.
- The second position is a dedicated Core Course TA who will work with the SESDirector and instructors, assisting with preparation for and supervision of lab and fieldwork associated with the SES core course. Duties include but are not limited to: assisting in removal from storage, uncrating and setting up of equipment and supplies required for the SES program; helping supervise students with chemical and laboratory analyses as needed; helping students with data analysis and calculations for core course labs and projects; assisting students in the field with independent project work;
helping to maintain smooth functioning of the SES computer network and maintaining an orderly laboratory.
SES Recruitment Coordinator JOB SUMMARY: Working closely with the SES Director, the SES recruitment coordinator helps to promote the SES Program at colleges and universities that have approved the program for their students. Visits schools and makes presentations to groups and individuals. Coordinates recruitment efforts and serves as primary point of contact for assigned schools as well as internal coordination of MBL’s participation in outreach activities. The period of employment runs from approximately August 20, 2018 to March 8, 2019.
Dorm Resident Teaching Assistant JOB SUMMARY: The Dorm Resident Teaching Assistant will work with the SES Director and instructors and assist with the preparation for lab and field work
