Wetland Ecosystems Research Lab, Southeast Environmental Research Center in the Institute of
Water and Environment, Florida International University, Miami, Florida.
We have an excellent opportunity for a young professional to conduct field research and
laboratory activities in Everglades National Park and Water Conservation Areas of south Florida.
The successful candidate will also conduct research in coastal Louisiana to evaluate vulnerability
of coastal deltaic wetlands to sea-level rise and reduced sediment input in the Mississippi River
Deltaic region.
The Wetland Ecosystems Research Lab is looking for an individual to help with all aspects of
research in mangrove, freshwater marsh, and tree island ecosystems. Candidates with a strong
background in coastal wetlands are encouraged to apply for this position. Candidate must have a
B.S. degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Sciences or Earth Sciences and three years of
experience.
Candidate must be able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team under the difficult weather conditions often found in south Florida and coastal Louisiana. Organizational and problem-solving skills are essential. Candidate should demonstrate experience operating field vehicles (trucks with trailers, airboats, and marine boats). The position will involve field activities working with wetland vegetation, soils, and water quality instrumentation, including multiparameter sondes, and troubleshooting equipment at remote field sites. Laboratory activities include sample preparation and processing according to standard protocols. Candidate will help with database maintenance, perform quality assurance on data, statistical analysis, as well as prepare and analyze data for reports and publications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, statistical (e.g., SAS, R, JMP) and graphical packages, and GIS is also preferred. Excellent written/oral communication skills, including technical writing expe rience (reports or publications) is desired.
The position is expected to begin in January 2020. The initial appointment will be for one year
and potentially renewable for a second year.
Salary range: $30,000 – $35,000 commensurate with education and experience.
A valid United States driver’s license is required.
