Because the sites in our network focus on long-term ecological processes, the continuity of our efforts is critical to tracking and understanding environmental change. During 2013, disruptions in the federal government’s support for research challenged our ability to maintain long-term experiments and observations. Working with the National Science Foundation (NSF), LTER sites successfully met this challenge and continued to produce important new insights into the way our nation’s key ecosystems function.

NSF “Discoveries in Long-Term Ecological Research”
The NSF discovery articles on LTER research compiled into one publication. Hard copies are available from the NSF.
There will also be a URL for the publication in about a week or so, and will forward that.
This was modeled after the NSF SEES discovery publication.

A comprehensive report on the LTER’s network activities throughout the preceding year, intended to give decision makers, media professionals, and the interested public information about the LTER’s overall performance.

The original high resolution file is in the shared/urban/2012 Annual Report directory at LNO.

Video teleconferencing, or VTC, has become routine today due to the development of advanced video compression technologies and the ability to use these protocols over the internet. The traditional justification for the use of VTC has been the savings in travel costs but what users are now finding is that their effectiveness in the workplace is increased by having key colleagues more readily available.

The LTER Interactive Cartographic Atlas is a tool to generate images of sites in the LTER Network against various backdrops. The tool was created by Jamie Hollingsworth of Bonanza Creek with support from the LNO. Images can be saved and used in presentations and publications (with attribution to Jamie). Because of the wide range of backdrops, we can now generate fresh, relevant images on demand.
