Position Summary:
The Ecosystems Center is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as the Information Manager for the Plum Island Ecosystem Long-Term Ecological Research site (PIE-LTER). The successful candidate will be responsible for curating and archiving a wide variety of data sets from researchers, oversee the collection and QA/QC of data from a number of sensors in the field, maintaining the public facing web site, and supporting researchers in information management. While the Information Manager’s primary responsibility will be IT oriented, some field work at PIE will be encouraged. The position will be at an RAII or RAIII level depending upon experience.
Basic Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in information science, computer science, GIS, ecosystem science, natural resources, or a related field plus at least 3 years of successful directly related experience.
- Experience with field data collection from sensors such as water quality sondes and weather stations
- Familiarity with ecological data sets
- Ability to effectively communicate with, and implement data policies, for a broad range of audiences
- Desire to help others work through information management challenges
- Commitment to support the project mission by addressing information management needs of diverse teams working with diverse data sets
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency with R or MATLAB or Python
- Experience with data processing and visualization (GitHub collaboration and R packages, for example), and developing workflows for data access, analysis, and modeling
- Experience in one or more of the following: integration and use of public databases, remotely sensed and/or geospatial datasets
- Knowledge of web content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, etc)
