Opportunity Type:

The Accelerating Resilience Innovations in Drylands (ARID) Institute at the University of New Mexico is hiring a Program Manager to support implementation of a multi-faceted project to collect and synthesize data for compilation into a geospatial database and decision-support tool for communities, managers, and policymakers in New Mexico. This position will work with multiple principal investigators (PIs) across UNM departments, and will report directly to the ARID Institute Director and Program Operations Director. The Program Manager will oversee the fiscal, operational, and administrative management of the project, including seeking and developing additional funding sources to supplement state funding, and maintaining responsibility of the appropriate use of programmatic funds. The Program Manager serves as principal point person and liaison with stakeholders at the local and state level on operational matters, and provides day-to-day technical/professional guidance and leadership to PIs. The current funding is secured for one year. The contract term may be extended, dependent on funding.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees the administrative and daily operations of the project, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Works with PIs and ARID Leadership to ensure implementation of the project elements, including adherence to budgets and workflow timelines.
  • Manages project funding; approves and monitors budget expenditures; prepares budget revisions; provides interim status reports on all accounts; oversees, coordinates, and/or assists with proposal writing to develop additional funding.
  • Coordinates day-to-day program and related activities.
  • Develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records for the program, including monthly reporting of activities, achievement of metrics, and planned activities to ARID Leadership and the Office of the Vice President for Research. Oversees the collection, compilation, and analysis of program activities; develops, writes, and presents update reports to ARID Leadership.
  • Assists PIs in establishing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures to facilitate program implementation. Ensures alignment of the different program elements. Ensures alignment with broader ARID priorities, initiatives, and direction.
  • Assist in grant writing and fundraising to secure additional program funding.
  • May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience 2 of which are management level experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, natural resources, biology, or other related field.
  • Experience with UNM fiscal management software and programs, including Banner 9, LoboWeb, and MyReports.
  • Experience working in a university or college environment.
  • Proven track record in winning grants and contracts, or in fundraising.
