Committees and Interest Groups
Several LTER committees and interest groups are experiencing a surge of activity in the wake of the LTER All Scientists’ Meeting. Participation is entirely voluntary, but if you are interested in the following issues and activities, please reach out to the listed contact people for more information:
Cross-site REU proposal team: A group of investigators and REU coordinators are looking at developing a proposal for a cross-site REU program. Sam Norlin (norlin@nceas.ucsb.edu) is coordinating interest
Diversity Committee: Interested in helping develop a set of resources and best practices to apply across the Network? Alan Berkowitz (berkowitza@caryinstitute.org) co-chairs this committee.
International LTER Committee: Are you involved in international research or have ideas about how to expand international connections? Mark Watkins (Mark.Watkins@asu.edu) is coordinating interest.
Communications Committee: Clarisse Hart (hart3@fas.harvard.edu) and Julie Doll (jedoll@msu.edu) chair this committee that is building a community of practice among LTER communicators and investigators.

Funding Opportunities
Dynamics of Integrated Socio-Environmental Systems (CNH2): The CNH2 Program supports research projects that advance basic scientific understanding of integrated socio-environmental systems and the complex interactions (dynamics, processes, and feedbacks) within and among the environmental (biological, physical and chemical) and human (“socio”) (economic, social, political, or behavioral) components of such a system. Letter of Intent (required): December 17, 2018; full proposal: February 14, 2019.
Accelerating Research through International Network-to-Network Collaborations (AccelNet): The goals of the Accelerating Research through International Network-to-Network Collaborations (AccelNet) program are to accelerate the process of scientific discovery and prepare the next generation of U.S. researchers for multiteam international collaborations. The AccelNet program supports strategic linkages among U.S. research networks and complementary networks abroad that will leverage research and educational resources to tackle grand scientific challenges that require significant coordinated international efforts. Letter of Intent: December 21, 2018; full proposal: February 28, 2019.
Powell Center Call for Proposals: Powell Center Working group proposals are due January 31, 2019. The Powell Center seeks projects that address development and testing of important Earth system science ideas and theories using existing data, cutting-edge analysis of Earth system information, and use of sound science in policy and management decisions.
Macrosystems Biology and NEON-Enabled Science (MSB-NES). Research on Biological Systems at Regional to Continental Scales program will support quantitative, interdisciplinary, systems-oriented research on biosphere processes and their complex interactions with climate, land use, and invasive species at regional to continental scales as well as training activities to enable groups to conduct Macrosystems Biology and NEON-Enabled Science research. Full proposals: February 25, 2019.
Frontier Research in the Earth Sciences (FRES): The FRES program will support research in Earth systems from its core through the critical zone. Full proposal target date: February 20, 2019.
