Peter Van Zandt Lane is a composer and sound artist actively collaborating with scientists associated with the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Long-Term Ecological Research project (GCE-LTER). He is interested in how scientific data can be incorporated in compositions involving audio technology, deploying electronic sound in the context of multimedia installations, as well as in compositions for large ensembles (orchestra and choral ensembles with integrated spatialized electronics). Works he’ll be discussing include Coastal Portrait (for orchestra and multi-channel electronics) and Tidal Mosaic (for choral ensemble and electronics), alongside their companion installation pieces.
Dr. Lane is a professor of music composition at the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music, where he serves as the Jane Willson Professor in the Arts.
