grade 5 students at T.N. Kirnon Primary School
Jen Davis and another volunteer, Scherry Clark have been using the Lost Seal books in various schools. Here grade 5 students at T.N. Kirnon Primary School along with the Grade 5 literacy teacher work with students to read the story and learn about Antarctica’s unique environment. Students were introduced to Antarctica by discussing what they already know and what they want to find out. In reading the story they have been enthralled with the brilliantly colored pictures from other students that decorate the pages.

The Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research (FCE LTER) Education and Outreach Program has been a fundamental aspect of the FCE research program since it was established in May of 2000.

The FCE LTER is based in south Florida at Florida International University and includes scientists from 29 institutions including universities, government agencies, and non-governmental agencies.

FCE Education and Outreach (FCE E&O) focuses on the research we conduct in the oligohaline ecotone, an area where freshwater and estuarine vegetation mix.

FCE E&O programs are designed to explain the significance of our research and how hydrology, climate, and human activities affect ecosystem and population dynamics within the ecotone and more broadly, the Florida Coastal Everglades.

Over the last decade, FCE E&O and our partners have worked together to develop a comprehensive program that addresses our diverse constituency. We currently offer a range of programming that includes: K-12 students, pre- and professional service teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, policy and decision makers, and concerned citizens.
