LTER Resource Toolkits
Each individual LTER site faces unique challenges and opportunities in building the strengths, skills, and relationships needed to create a fully inclusive learning and work environment. To help sites address common challenges they and their members face, the LTER Network Office has developed several resource toolkits. Our Field Safety, Mental Health, and Mentoring toolkits should help sites develop better field experiences for the coming season. Several other toolkits are in development, so check back soon.

Field Safety Toolkit
Fieldwork has many unique safety challenges and identity and positionality affects the types and levels of risk an individual will face while participating in field work. Our three part toolkit collects field safety documentation from our sites, provides information on training, and includes a reading list.
Mental Health Toolkit
Fieldwork is often touted for the rewards and benefits, but it is also filled with physical, emotional, and mental challenges. Our Field Safety Toolkit includes more broad resources for considering safety in the field, but below you will find readings on the intersection of field work and mental health as well as resources for Mental Health First Aid training nationally available.
Mentoring Toolkit
Effective mentoring improves the learning, performance, and professional growth experience for everyone, by clarifying expectations and opportunities. This toolkit includes mentoring documentation from sites, training and professional development opportunities, and a reading list.
