LTER/CESU Career Forum - May 7, 2025 - 10:00 am-12:00 pm -

Preparing to enter the scientific work force after completing a graduate degree can be daunting at any time. The current funding uncertainty adds a whole new layer of uncertainty. There is no ‘one path fits all’ that will lead to your career goals, but one of the best ways to prepare is to learn from others’ experiences.

This year, the LTER career forum will focus on the role of environmental scientists in state agencies, non-governmental organizations, for-profit organizations, and tribal communities.

If you are interested in pursuing a career outside of academia — or just learning what one might be like — join us on May 7 from 1:00-3:00 PM EST/10:00-Noon PST to meet scientists working around the United States and learn about their career paths, work challenges and benefits, ‘a day in their life,’ and advice they wish they had known as early career scientists.

Bring your questions and join in the lively discussion. If you have any questions before the event, please contact Paige Kleindl at pklei007@fiu.edu.

Synthesis Skills for Early Career Researchers (SSECR) Final Symposium - May 22, 2025 - 10:00 am-12:00 pm -

Since September, 2024, a group of 25 graduate students and postdocs have been meeting weekly as part of the Synthesis Skills for Early Career Researchers (SSECR; [SEE-ker]) course. SSECR addresses the need for more comprehensive interpersonal and data skills in ecology and is structured around small group synthesis projects. On May 22, the Network Office is holding a special Community Call where SSECR participants will share the outcomes of their synthesis projects to date.

Learn more about SSECR and this year’s synthesis projects at the class website. We plan to offer the course again in 2026.
